When Nepal lockdown will open for tourists? When can I travel to Nepal again after this Covid-19 situation? Since, when the international flights start to arrive in Nepal? What is Nepal Government’s plan for opening tourism destinations? Is it safe to travel in Nepal after COVID -19?
These are leading questions we are receiving from our well-wishers, Nepal lovers, and adventure enthusiasts. Nepal is definitely a premier destination for adventure lovers in the sector of Trekking and Mountaineering in the Himalayas.
Pandemics, Natural disasters, Epidemics, and similar phenomena are beyond the control of we human beings. Corona Virus suddenly erupted for the last eight-nine months is yet to be controlled. And, the nations, scientists, and researchers are failing to find sure-shot solutions to the problem.
This is one of the hardest times for all people around the world. Many people lost their family members due to the pandemic; lost their job; and forced to live in uncertainty. WHO recently threatened that the world will enter into a new phase of poverty due to this pandemic. The economy is totally damaged all over the world.
But, what we all reach to the conclusion that we have to restart our life with the Corona Virus and Covid-19. The only solution left to us at this moment is to pay attention to the virus, work cautiously, and be patient until medicine/vaccine is found.
Our life and our health are the most important things at this stage. Nonetheless, our active life, work, and earning life is equally important. We are in the most sensitive sector – the tourism industry – which can be affected by any minor issues. In this 75-years long history of tourism activities in Nepal, such large-scale damage has never been experienced. We are still uncertain of how the situation continues.
We have no choice to live with the Corona Virus and work along with the threat of the virus.
Thus, various fraternities of the Nepali tourism industry, umbrella associations of different service providers begin to pressurize the Nepal Government and Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation to open the international borders and schedule flights as early as possible to help sustain tourism businesses. Meanwhile, 25 organizations in the tourism sector held a joint press conference in Kathmandu on 16th July 2020 and demanded the government to reopen all tourist attractions. The cessation of domestic and international flights brought the business into zero and businesses are bearing unlimited responsibilities which cannot be pulled for a long time now.
The private sector is ready to follow the safety protocol and arrange all services for the tourist.
Earlier the Government of Nepal and Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation formed a committee on the 29th of June 2020 headed by Joint Secretary of the ministry Buddhisagar Lamichhane to make some recommendations regarding the re-opening of tourism services. His committee suggested on 16th July 2020 that Nepal can start domestic flights from the 5th of August, 2020 and international flights from 17th August, 2020 strictly following safety protocols published by the WHO and Nepal Government.
